Microsoft does not allow OGA Notifications
(KB949810) to be uninstalled, but that does not mean the individual
file components of OGA Notifications cannot be deleted, or removed manually.
This is a Guide to help one do just that!
To disable OGA Notifications, and sending of
information to Microsoft manually do the following:
Close and exit ALL Office applications (examples:
Access, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Visio, OneNote).
(NOTE: %SystemDrive% typically represents C: on most
systems / computers - It is the drive Windows Boots / Loads from)
Search in the following directories / Folders:
%SystemDrive%\Wndows\System32 folder (for 32 bit Windows Operating
Systems)
OR
%SystemDrive%\Windows\SysWow64 folder (for 64-bit Windows Operating
Systems)
for any of the following files:
OGAAddin.dll
OGACheckControl.dll
OGAEXEC.exe
OGAVerify.exe
Delete any of the above files when found. Note: You may need to
turn off "User Account Control", and / or be logged on as an
Administrator in order to delete these files.
Next (In order to Prevent the Computer from Re-Installing OGA when
Windows Automatically checks for Updates):
Click "Start"
Click "RUN"
Type regedit in the box, and press "Enter".
In the Registry Editor application click the "Edit" dropdown.
On the "Edit" dropdown click "Find".
Type, or copy and paste:
OGAAddin.connect
into the "Find What:" Box.
Look for LoadBehavior in the results (in the Right Panel).
When you find LoadBehavior, Right Click on it and Left Click "Modify"
change the value from 3 to 0 and click "OK".
press your "F3" Key to find the next set of result with the find
feature.
Look for LoadBehavior in the results, again.
As before, When you find LoadBehavior, Right Click on it and Left Click
"Modify"
change the value from 3 to 0 and click "OK".
Repeat the process pressing F3, looking for LoadBehavior, and modifying it's
value from 3 to 0 until pressing "F3" yields the "Finished Searching
Registry" Message. When you get the "Finished searching
through the registry"
Message, close the Registry Editor, you are done! You should not
see a nag message, or have OGA send information to Microsoft every time you
log on to your computer, and OGA should never re-install its self
during the Windows Automatic Update Process.
Doing this requires editing the registry on your
computer. If you are not comfortable doing this you may
want to live with OGA. Warning! - You edit your computers
registry and files at your own risk, we will not be responsible for
any editing you perform!!! |
